For Parents, Family Members, Babysitters and other non-professionals, our TotSavers class is hands-down the right choice. We address more topics in a more comprehensive way through the eyes of trained First Responders with decades of experience, topics including bleeding, burns, poisoning, choking, head injuries, eye-nose-and dental injuries, drownings, bug and bee bites, allergic reactions, and more…. all in a more comprehensive way reflecting our real-world experiences as First Responders. We also emphasize being prepared for emergencies, preventing common childhood injuries, as well as offering tips on surviving and escaping household fires.
For those with specific job-related or regulatory (OSHA) requirements, contact us here. Individual certification classes can be scheduled at your facility, and often this class plus an additional hour of specific hands-on training (immediately following your TotSavers class) will not only meet but often exceed those regulatory needs.
As long as that individual (a sibling, your babysitter…) is of the age you believe would understand the material presented, they are more than welcome to join us. Accidents can happen anytime and we believe anyone caring for your child should be well-trained and prepared to care for your child in your absence.
To encourage this, we offer reduced rates for anyone 17 years of age and under.
#1 – Questions
#2 – A pen and notepad
#3 – Comfortable clothing
#4 – Coffee or a bottle of water wouldn’t be a bad idea, and don’t forget your husband or partner.
No, once you’ve taken a class you can come back as often as you’d like. Repetition
breeds Preparation, and we want you to be as prepared as possible if a crisis were to happen.
Just let us know you’d like to attend a second time by sending us a message “here” or by using the Contact Us option on the Menu Bar.
Space permitting, we’d love to see you again.
Child-care available is not available at our classes, unless otherwise noted in the class description.
That said, we do understand some mothers may be breastfeeding their infants or have other special needs and finding a babysitter might be a challenge, so yes, if need be you and your child are more than welcome. We’d just ask you use your discretion and minimize class disruption as much as possible.
Refunds are offered up until the night before your scheduled class, as we need to know the number attending, the seats to have available that otherwise could have gone to another paying student, and the supplies to bring. After that (the day of the class), you’re welcome to reschedule for another date or transfer your reservation to a friend or family member. Refunds may take up to ten days, depending on the mode of payment.
Yes and no. Your standard CPR class pretty much focuses on describing what CPR is with a bit of practice on a manikin. TotSavers addresses a broader spectrum of topics we find vitally important to the care of a child you’re responsible for. Given our real-world experience as full-time First Responders, we understand the need for Preparation – having and knowing how to use fire extinguishers and first aid kits, having vital information at hand and easily found, creating escape plans so everyone knows how to get out of your home safely in a fire and where to meet so no one rushes back in looking for someone already out, and more. Preparation before the chaos of a crisis brings confidence that you can protect your child, your number one responsibility. We also focus heavily on Prevention through thorough Baby-Proofing any environment your child is located, be it your home, a neighbor’s home, or their day care. Prevention saves more lives than waiting for an injury and trying to provide some sort of First Aid. As to CPR, our Instructor’s have vast experience performing CPR in real-world situations, from the back of an ambulance, in fires, on the street, and even off-duty. Real-world experience and the tragedies we’ve seen is our motivation to train parents in the care of their children. First Aid? We’ve got that covered with our EMT’s sharing their knowledge of how to treat a multitude of injuries, from falls to head injuries to choking and bleeding and so much more. And finally, with retired NYC Firefighters on our staff, you’ll learn what fire is and isn’t, how to put out the smaller fires (ie cooking fires, the #1 cause of home fires) and how to safely escape any fire and save your family. So no, our classes are not your traditional CPR-only and we’re darn proud of that.
